What is male breast reduction?

Male breast reduction is a surgical procedure to treat gynecomastia – enlarged male breasts. In this cosmetic surgery, Dr. Nirav Savalia removes excess fat and glandular tissue to restore flatter, firmer, more masculine contours to the chest.

Am I a good candidate for male breast reduction?

The appearance of male breasts may seem minor to the outside observer, but if you are suffering from gynecomastia, you know firsthand the self-consciousness abnormal glandular breast and fatty tissue development can cause. Dr. Savalia can help you regain a well-defined, more muscular chest with male breast reduction in Newport Beach, so you can feel confident about yourself and your body.

You may be a good candidate for this procedure if any of the following apply to you:

  • I have anxiety about revealing my chest in public at the beach, gym, pool, etc.
  • Others have commented on or teased me about the appearance of my chest
  • I hide my chest with larger shirts or special undergarments
  • I’m self-conscious about my chest in intimate settings
  • I have discomfort or tenderness of the breast

What can I expect with male breast reduction in Newport Beach?

While male breast reduction may appear to be a fairly straightforward procedure, Dr. Savalia accounts for many factors to deliver positive final results. He believes in taking a conservative approach whenever possible. To begin the procedure, a small incision is made around the areola. If only fatty tissue needs to be removed, he primarily uses liposuction to remove fatty tissue via gentle suction. If both glandular tissue and fatty tissue need to be removed, he will combine liposuction with surgical excision. In severe grades of gynecomastia, skin excision and recontouring may also be necessary.

I can help you regain a well-defined, more muscular chest so you can feel confident about yourself and your body. This procedure can have a very significant positive impact on the lives of patients.

What is recovery like after male breast reduction?

After surgery, you will wear a special compression garment to help keep you comfortable and minimize impact to the chest area. It is common to notice some swelling, bruising, and tenderness initially; Dr. Savalia can recommend medication if needed. Most men can return to work and normal daily routines within a week and can resume exercise and other vigorous activities about a month after surgery.

Male Breast Reduction FAQs

Why have male breast reduction?

Male breast reduction can help men who have glandular breast tissue resulting from hormone imbalance, a side effect of certain medications, or other factors. In many cases, the root cause of the condition is unknown. This procedure may also benefit men who have fatty deposits on their chests rather than actual glandular breast tissue, as typically seen in men who are struggling with excess weight. Dr. Savalia can help you regain a well-defined, more muscular chest so you can feel confident about yourself and your body. Male breast reduction can have a positive impact on your life.

Are there nonsurgical treatments for gynecomastia?

If a root cause can be identified, treatment may be recommended before surgery. For example, men who are overweight may find they can achieve a more muscular look by committing to a weight-loss routine, while adolescent boys may see their gynecomastia resolve on its own without treatment, as their hormones become more balanced.
