A thigh lift is a surgery to remove loose skin and excess tissue through the inner and outer thighs, which are common with aging and after significant weight loss. This procedure is performed to improve the appearance of the thighs and to increase comfort when patients are experiencing chafing during walking or other activities.

Am I a thigh lift candidate?

If you experience chafing during walking or other activities, a thigh lift can increase comfort and also improve the look of the thighs. This procedure can be performed on the inner and outer thighs.

Here are some common reasons we hear about why a person is considering a thigh lift:

  • My thighs have a saggy appearance since I lost weight
  • The loose skin between my thighs causes chafing and irritation

What is recovery like after a thigh lift?

An inner and outer thigh lift may be performed at the same time when necessary. After surgery, you will wear a supportive garment and be encouraged to walk around as soon as you are able. These efforts work together to help reduce swelling and encourage healthy blood circulation. The thighs will look swollen at first and may feel painful. Dr. Savalia can prescribe medication to help you feel more comfortable if needed. Although normal daily activities can usually be resumed two weeks after surgery, more vigorous activities should be avoided for a month or so.

What can I expect with a thigh lift in Newport Beach?

Dr. Savalia performs both inner and outer thigh lifts, very often in combination with additional procedures for body contouring following weight loss.

  • Inner thigh lift – Also called a medial thigh lift, this procedure removes excess skin and tissue along the inside of the thighs. Dr. Savalia typically places an incision within the natural crease of the groin to minimize the appearance of scarring, although, if there is a substantial amount of excess skin, the incision may need to extend down to the knee. Through the incision, he can remove excess soft tissue and skin for an improved inner thigh contour.
  • Outer thigh lift – Technically referred to as a lateral thigh lift, this procedure improves the appearance of the outer thighs by sculpting and removing fatty “saddlebags.” Dr. Savalia often performs an outer thigh lift in conjunction with a tummy tuck or liposuction. Excess skin and tissue are removed through an incision that extends from the groin to hip.

I like that Dr. Savalia prides himself on all of his patients looking natural. He is so warm and welcoming. When I visit him for appointments, I feel like I’m visiting a friend.

Thigh Lift FAQ

Will a thigh lift get rid of my cellulite?

A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure that involves removing excess skin and tightening the remaining skin on the inner or outer thighs. Because the procedure tightens skin, the appearance of cellulite can improve with a thigh lift. Following the procedure, the thighs are smoother, and you can enjoy a more toned and proportionate appearance. If you struggle with unwanted, flabby skin on the thighs, a thigh lift can be combined with liposuction. Or, you may choose to combine your thigh lift with a lower body lift, which removes skin on the buttocks, creating a more balanced overall body figure.

How do I maintain my thigh lift results?

To maintain your slimmer, smoother thighs, you are advised to maintain a healthy lifestyle following surgery. Gaining or losing a substantial amount of weight can alter results and worsen the appearance of cellulite. Smoking and overexposure to the sun can damage the skin on the thighs, making them look aged and wrinkled. Before your surgery, Dr. Savalia can make more recommendations for your post-op recovery care.
