Is it Right for Me?
The best candidates for a mommy makeover are women who have completed their families and want to regain their pre-pregnancy figure. Mommy makeover candidates should be in good overall physical and mental health and have realistic expectations about their results. During a mommy makeover, patients can take a comprehensive and customized approach to their procedure, resolving issues that may have resulted from pregnancy such as loose stomach skin, or even giving their bodies an enhancement they’ve always wanted like breast augmentation.
Which Procedures Should I Choose for My Mommy Makeover?
A mommy makeover is a unique opportunity for you to decide what changes you would to see in your body. While there are many procedures that can be part of a mommy makeover, some of the most common ones include:
- Abdominoplasty, more commonly known as a tummy tuck, can tighten and smooth loose abdominal skin while removing excess fatty tissue from the abdomen and repairing loose or separated abdominal muscles.
- Breast enhancement: Pregnancy and nursing can have a substantial impact on the shape, size, and texture of a woman’s breasts. To regain a more youthful bust line, you can include procedures such as a breast augmentation with or without a breast lift, or a breast reduction for a cup size that’s become overly generous.
- Liposuction can effectively reduce subcutaneous fat in targeted areas of the body. Most commonly, liposuction is used around the abdomen and love handles, thighs, upper arms, back, and under the chin to provide more streamlined contours.
- Med Spa Treatments can include a range of nonsurgical facial enhancements, chemical peels to heal environmental and age related changes for a smoother complexion, and BOTOX® Cosmetic to help reduce dynamic wrinkles.
How Long Should I Wait after Having a Child to Get a Mommy Makeover?
I typically suggest that my patients wait at least six months after weaning before undergoing a mommy makeover. This is because pregnancy hormones, such as estrogen and progesterone, can affect skin laxity, your body’s responses to various stimuli, and other aspects related to overall health. These hormones may continue to be at a higher-than-normal level until a few months after weaning. Additionally, it can be helpful to take some time to gauge the full range of your body’s changes after pregnancy and nursing before deciding on the right procedures for you.
What If I Decide to Have Another Baby in the Future?
None of the procedures in a mommy makeover should affect your ability to enjoy a healthy pregnancy in the future. However, I usually recommend that my patients wait until they are positive that they have completed their families before undergoing a mommy makeover. This is because a future pregnancy could reverse many of the improvements made in a mommy makeover, potentially resulting in the need for revision procedures. If you aren’t sure if you will have another child, it’s entirely up to you as to whether you would like a mommy makeover now with the chance that some of the procedures may need to be repeated in the future.
When Will I See Results?
You should notice a difference in your body contours immediately following your surgery. However, your final results will gradually develop over the next several weeks and months. Every woman recovers at a different rate, and every mommy makeover procedure is different to fit each patient’s needs, so there is no exact length of time for final results to develop. By about six months after surgery, you should have a fairly accurate idea of what your mommy makeover results look and feel like. I will provide you with detailed instructions on post-operative care and how to ease back into exercise to maintain your new shape.
