Timing is everything. Occasionally a wonderful opportunity can present itself, but unless the timing is right, it doesn’t work out. This is certainly true of plastic surgery procedures like tummy tuck (abdominoplasty). There are certain elements that must be timed correctly in order to reap the rewards of the surgery. Dr. Nirav Savalia, tummy tuck surgeon in Orange County, addresses some of those elements here. Continue reading “When Is the Ideal Time for a Tummy Tuck?” »

Undoubtedly one of the most exciting aspects of tummy tuck surgery is being able to show off your slimmer and flatter stomach. In this blog post, Dr. Nirav Savalia of Newport Beach Center for Plastic Surgery shares his recommendations on what to wear during your recovery and what to wear once your body is fully healed. As a leading plastic surgeon in Newport Beach, Dr. Nirav Savalia performs tummy tuck surgery (abdominoplasty) on hundreds of men and women each year. While many of these patients seek the body contouring procedure to achieve a sleeker and firmer physique, some choose to undergo the procedure for medical reasons. In this blog post, Dr. Savalia shares some of the medical benefits of tummy tuck surgery.
Reduced Stress Urinary Incontinence
Following vaginal pregnancy, some women develop Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), a common bladder problem that is characterized by an uncontrollable leakage of urine. The leakage can be triggered by coughing, sneezing, exercising or laughing. Research has shown that tummy tuck surgery can help reduce SUI. During tummy tuck, a slight bladder obstruction can be created using soft tissue in the pelvic area to reduce incontinence.
Following massive weight loss or pregnancy, stomach muscles can become weakened and/or separated, leading to poor posture as well as neck, shoulder and/or back pain. Tummy tuck surgery repairs these weakened muscles while removing excess skin and fat to flatten the abdomen. Following the procedure, many of Dr. Savalia’s patients notice their posture has improved due to the tightened muscles that are now supporting their spine.
Corrects Ventral Hernia
In some cases, tummy tuck surgery can be used to treat a ventral hernia. A ventral hernia can occur when the intestine or abdominal tissue breaks through the abdominal wall, forming a painful sack. Patients who have lost a massive amount of weight or undergone surgeries such as C-sections can experience a ventral hernia. Surgery to correct a ventral hernia is similar to tummy tuck surgery. Both surgeries correct weakened abdominal muscles. In some cases, a surgeon may decide to combine tummy tuck surgery with the hernia repair to strengthen the abdominal wall and prevent future hernias forming.
About Tummy Tuck Surgery
Are you considering tummy tuck surgery? Whether for cosmetic or medical reasons, Dr. Savalia is committed to helping patients like yourself achieve a better quality of life through tummy tuck surgery. He performs two types of tummy tuck surgeries:
A mini tummy tuck removes excess tissue and skin from the belly button down to the waistline. The procedure is best used on patients with a small amount of skin and fat.
A full tummy tuck removes excess tissue and tightens the remaining skin from the chest down to the waistline, for a slimmer and smoother midsection.
