If you have recently lost a significant amount of weight, either through diet and exercise or weight loss surgery, you may be bothered by loose skin and tissues concealing your thinner figure. Nowadays, many men and women who have lost weight rely on body contouring to refine and highlight their smaller shape. Read on as Orange County plastic surgery specialist Dr. Nirav Savalia weighs in on the best post-weight loss body contouring procedures.
Tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, refines the contours of the abdomen by removing excess skin and pockets of fat and tightening abdominal muscles that have stretched or separated. After tummy tuck, the abdomen looks flatter and firmer, and the waistline looks narrower. The navel may also be relocated higher on the abdomen. Tummy tuck incisions are created on the lower abdomen and may extend around the sides of the waist. An additional incision may be created around the circumference of the belly button.
Thigh lift remedies loose skin and fat on the upper inner or outer thigh area. During surgery, excess skin and fatty tissue are removed and the remaining skin is tightened around the thighs. The surgical incisions are usually created in the groin and may extend down toward the knee.
Arm lift resolves loose skin and tissues that can sag off the upper arms. During surgery, loose skin is removed, fat pockets are reduced via liposuction and the remaining skin is wrapped more tightly around the smaller arm contour. The incisions are generally created within the armpit and may extend down the inside or back of the arm toward the elbow.
Lower body lift is a comprehensive way to improve the lower torso below the waistline, as well as the buttocks, backs of the thighs, outer thighs, inner thighs and hips. Loose skin is removed and the tissues are tightened, toned and lifted to sculpt the lower body contours. The incisions are similar to the tummy tuck incisions but extend around the circumference of the lower torso. The length of the incision depends on how much excess skin needs to be removed and the location of the skin.
Women that lose a substantial amount of weight often find their breasts look saggy and flat on the chest. As discussed in the last blog post, breast lift elevates the breasts higher on the chest to create a more youthful and attractive contour. The nipple-areolar complex can also be repositioned higher on the breasts for a perkier appearance.
